How long after bootcamp do you get your first orders for the navy?

I've heard from some it's right after bootcamp, from some it's after grad from A school. If it matters, he was Grad & Go, corpsman. Also, is it true that if you have a family (three dependants) they won't move you (if you live near a base already) until you're E-4 (unless they need you somewhere else for some reason; the main question is will they try to keep him here unless they need him somewhere else?)
