How do I fix an ink cartridge for my HP printer, that has worked before, but is now coming back incompatible?

I have an HP Deskjet F300 series printer. I recently purchased new ink cartridges for it and it printed fine for about a month. Now, while my supply levels are almost full, I'm getting an error message stating that "The black print cartridge is faulty or incompatible with this printer". I removed it and cleaned the dock only to find the same issue. Is there a way to override the error message? Is it my printer or the ink?
