What are the benefits of joining the US NAVY as a Licensed Vocational Nurse?

I am considering joining the Navy Reserve and live in Monterey california.Also, I have had cancer 14 years ago and I am wondering if that will disqualify me medically from joining the Navy. I am hoping that if I am approved to join the Navy as a "Hospital Corpsmen" that the Navy could posssibly help me to find employment within the medical field. anyone know about the peace corps or any advice about the Navy.
